The ESL + Music program is designed to help students develop their English language skills before beginning a degree or diploma program at Mannes, the School of Jazz, or the Performer-Composer Master of Music. Students study music with members of the faculty while improving their English language skills in order to qualify for degree programs.
Program Features
- Private music lessons with a Mannes, School of Jazz, or Performer-Composer faculty member
- Intensive English language study—speaking and listening, grammar, reading, and academic writing
- F1 student visa eligibility based on full-time student status
The ESL + Music program fulfills the English language proficiency requirement for beginning study at Mannes, the School of Jazz, or the Performer-Composer program, and most students take one or two semesters of ESL + Music.
ESL + Music students are eligible to live in university housing and have access to other services and academic resources at The New School, including health services, an email account, practice rooms, library and computing services, tutoring, and free admission to concerts and recitals and other university events.
