    Profile

I research, write, and teach on how performance theory and practice can help us better understand our shared histories of coloniality, violence, and structural inequality across the Américas, and particularly in Brazil. With Diana Taylor, I coedited the multilingual digital books What is Performance Studies? (2015) and Resistant Strategies (2021). My essays have been published in several academic journals, including the Journal of Global South StudiesLatin American Theatre ReviewTDR: The Drama ReviewTheater: Yale's Journal of Criticism, Plays & Reportage, and Theatre Topics. Together with scholars from several different countries, languages, and disciplines, I organize panels and working sessions that explore how performance, both as practice and methodology can expand our understanding of the rise of neofascism and the politics of hope across the Américas. I'm currently writing a book that addresses the performance, policy, and politics of the Workers' Party in Brazil, from 2002 to 2016.

Before joining the New School, I've taught at the Universidade Estadual do Paraná in Brazil, New York University, New York University Abu Dhabi, and at the University of Colorado Boulder.
