    Phillip Rashkin

    Profile

    Phil Rashkin is based in New York City, and he plays oboe, english horn, piano, composes original music, conducts ensembles, and teaches music.   He specializes in coaching high school and junior-high school musicians for their music auditions and college applications.   His students have been accepted to schools including Harvard, Brown, Yale, Dartmouth, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, Amherst, Barnard, Vassar, LaGuardia High School of the Arts, Special Music School, Juilliard Pre-College, The Eastman School of Music, The Curtis Institute of Music, and The Juilliard School.

    Most importantly, he helps students of all ages develop a lifelong love of music.   Some career highlights include:

    In 2014 and in 2015, he toured with the Manhattan Symphonie to over 10 cities in China.

    In 2015, he toured the United States with Josh Groban for the release of his album Stages.

    In 2019, he performed at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards with guests Paul Shaffer, Joe Torre, and Martha Stewart.

    From 2016-2020, he played in the Downtown Sinfonietta chamber orchestra with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

    Between 2013-2024, he performed at Carnegie Hall eight times.

    He is featured in the Amazon television series Mozart in the Jungle, season 1 (2014) and season 3 (2016). He is also featured in the Netflix original movie Maestro, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper (2023).

    He was the music director of opera company Opera Upper West from 2014-2017, and he led productions of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Poulenc’s La voix humaine, Menotti’s The Telephone, and Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied.
