Students in the Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism (CPCJ) program broaden understanding of traditional journalism through their research on design, digital publishing, alternative media, and more. Their research, reporting, and writing are done
in collaboration with leading scholars, intellectuals, and other graduate programs and centers at The New School, combining theoretical foundations with broad critical analysis. CPCJ faculty assist students in developing their work for professional
publication, as well as for the university’s in-house journals.
Public Seminar
Public Seminar is the online publication of The New School. Each week, the magazine brings intellectual debate, academic research, and new writing to an international audience.
As
a part of the CPCJ program, Public Seminar offers eight student editor positions in the Editorial Lab, a fast-paced practicum for students committed to developing their editorial skills at a professional level. Working closely with editors
Evangeline Riddiford Graham, Natasha Lennard, and James E. Miller, students assist in the production of the magazine. Alongside learning how to pitch, copyedit, edit, publish, and promote online content, students are invited to write articles for
Public Seminar.
Back Matter
Back Matter is a student-run print and digital magazine developed, produced, and published every year. It is produced by CPCJ and other New School students in the recurring spring class Multimedia Publishing, Production, and Writing Lab: Advanced.
