    Shaskia Arifia - mother, swallow me
    My attempts to understand the discomfort of a corporeal existence serve as the blueprint for many of my multimedia works. Inspired by the feeling of belonging created by being in water and of loss caused by being away from it, mother, swallow me is a multipart performance installation that calls attention to our need to be closer to our origins—nature, particularly water—in a highly digitized landscape. My vulnerability is an invitation to viewers to dispense with rigid internalized constructs and accept fluidity.
