    The Weave

The Weave is a proposal for the expansion of Fondation Maeght, an art gallery located in the south of France. Designed by the Spanish architect Josep Lluís Sert, the building is intimately integrated into the landscape through an outdoor sculpture garden designed by the Spanish sculptor Joan Miró and by the curved design, which welcomes natural light into the interior.

The building is located near the city of Cannes, the site of one of the biggest film festivals in the world. The expansion provides space for student directors and performers to shine. A two-story gallery space has been added to house temporary exhibitions, as the current gallery is a private collection that does not circulate often.

The expansion explores the landscape and the relationship between curvature and light. The new design is integrated into the current gridlike structure, preserving the harmony between the light and Sert’s original design. The new spaces were inspired by the unique geometries of the current building and allow for new ways to introduce sunlight into the interior.
