    Hatuey Ramos Fermin

    Profile

    Hatuey Ramos-Fermín is an artist of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. He has organized projects at sites ranging from small businesses and community centers to churches, streets, galleries, and museums. He has worked at organizations such as the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Center for Urban Pedagogy, The Laundromat Project, and Naturally Occurring Cultural Districts New York.   

    His projects have been presented at El Museo del Barrio, apexart, Longwood Art Gallery, Taller Boricua, Andrew Freedman Home, the Root Division Gallery, the Contemporary Art Museum of Puerto Rico, Arsenal de La Puntilla, OpenWorks Institute, at LP2 Las Palmas Cultural Center, at the Westergasfabriek, FABNYC, Cuchifritos Gallery + project space, among other institutions. His work has been reviewed and/or published in the New York Times, Artforum, Public Art Review, City Limits, Edutopia, and New York Daily News, among other publications.  

    Hatuey received his B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico and an M.F.A. in Photography at St. Joost School of Art and Design Art in Breda, The Netherlands. His awards include the International Huygens Scholarship Programme of the Dutch Department for Higher Education. Hatuey is an alumnus of the Immigrant Artist Project at the New York Foundation for the Arts. His distinctions include grants from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Community Arts Development Fund Award, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Art’s Shift Residency, and The Laundromat Project’s Create Change Artist Residency.
