The Schools of Public Engagement aims to create and support a learning community inspired to address real-world issues through interdisciplinary, boundary-crossing methods applied in a range of professional fields. Our graduate and adult undergraduate
programs deliver an educational experience that is inclusive, forward looking, and highly relevant.
Students and alumni of the Schools of Public Engagement share a desire to make a difference in the world and have the skills, creativity, resilience, and sense of purpose needed to effect that change. Empowered by their New School education, our students
and alumni bring a spirit of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship to the challenge of addressing complex problems on a systems level. Their methodology is inclusive and collaborative, their leadership aligned with the demands of the contemporary
global economy.

Professional Development
In accordance with its mission to expand access to higher education for New York City working professionals, the Schools of Public Engagement offers a suite of noncredit, undergraduate, and graduate programs and certificates. These customizable course
offerings, some of which are available as part-time and online programs, can be scaled up to include robust college completion programs, pathways for graduate study, or professional certificate programs.
Current curricular partners include GMHC, Human Rights Watch, Sanctuary for Families, the United Federation of Teachers, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Career Pipelines
The Schools of Public Engagement is expanding partnerships designed to provide career and internship opportunities for our graduate and adult undergraduate students. Our alumni work in large media organizations including CBS, ESPN, Viacom, and Vice Media;
technology companies like Apple, Comcast, and Samsung; publishing companies including Condé Nast, Scholastic, and TIME; and nonprofits and NGOs like City Harvest, the Equal Justice Initiative, Human Rights Watch, and the World Food Programme.

Client-Based Initiatives
The Schools of Public Engagement is home to a variety of ongoing client-based initiatives, including the Urban Policy Lab, the Community Development Finance Lab,
the MA TESOL Outreach Program, and capstone projects in our Media Management programs.
Under the direction of faculty experts, students work in teams advising clients in the government and nonprofit sectors and the tech and media industries on pressing policy, systems, access, and management issues.
Recent clients include the New York City Department of Education, the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, the New York Immigrant Coalition, and Con Edison.
Public Program & Event Partnerships
The Schools of Public Engagement maintains event partnerships with leading New York City cultural institutions that offer our academic community, as well as the general public, access to leading experts in our
many areas of study.
Located just steps from Union Square, in the heart of Greenwich Village, The New School is home to world-class venue spaces, from large auditoriums seating up to 800 to
smaller conference and meeting spaces. Events presented in partnership with the Schools of Public Engagement draw on our faculty expertise, engaged student and alumni community, and 100-year history as a progressive cultural institution in downtown
New York City.
